At the beginning of 1981 several UNAIR and ITS lecturers and several community leaders joined in the Pawiyatan Gita Patria Foundation wanted to devote themselves to education by establishing a university. When arriving at the time of choosing the name of the university NAROTAMA was chosen. This choice is based on the background of the historical character of NAROTAMA associated with the spirit of devotion to the State and his soul as a figure who supports, fosters and raises AIRLANGGA. Implicit in the selection of the name is the desire of the newly founded university, namely NAROTAMA UNIVERSITY can assist and implement the existing ideals and expectations of Airlangga University. The article "NAROTAMA Existence, Struggle and History", this is the result of the study of Prof. Dr. Aminuddin Kasdi in the framework of the Anniversary / Lustrum IV of Narotama University, hopefully it will be a blessing for the community to understand Narotama's character and to be an inspiration and encouragement for the entire Academic and Alumni Community of Narotama University Surabaya,

City of Heroes

The city of Surabaya is the capital of East Java Province, Indonesia, as well as the largest metropolitan city in the province. Surabaya is the second largest city in Indonesia after Jakarta. The city is located 796 km east of Jakarta, or 415 km northwest of Denpasar, Bali. Surabaya is located on the north coast of the eastern part of Java Island and faces the Madura Strait and the Java Sea.

Surabaya is known as the City of Heroes because of its very calculated history in the struggle of Arek-Arek Suroboyo (Surabaya Youth) in maintaining the independence of the Indonesian people from invading invaders. Surabaya also had become the largest city in the Netherlands East Indies and became a commercial center in the archipelago that was parallel to Hong Kong and Shanghai at its time. [wikipedia]
